About

The words, the words…..they invade my conscious hours, they permeate my dreams.  The writer’s voice was quieted for a short time, but it is back with a vengeance.

Welcome to the new chapter of my ongoing journey to satiate the writing demon in my head.  Words continue to whirl in the confines of my brain and I continue to free them as expressively as possible.  Characters that have been shelved and absorbing dust for years have now reanimated themselves and begun fighting for their lives.  They have a wealth of language and emotion to share and are determined to have their stories put to paper.

My new journey may begin here, but it brings with it my seemingly forgotten past relationship with these words.   The ghosts of phrases past are visiting me when I least expect them, but together we free ourselves from the chains that were holding our ideas hostage.  Collectively we will greet the words of the present and embrace the words of the future.

This blog is me.  It is my sense of humor, my deepest thoughts  and my rawest emotions.  Thank you for joining me on the path to my happiness and letting me get to the root of my true passion.  May that root continue to branch out and grow.  If I write about things that resonate with you, I’d love to hear about it.  We are each on an individual journey, but we always find similar souls along the way.

  1. Hello Dear Toohey…..I love what you are doing! What you are saying. Keep at it mate….although we don’t always respond by way of an actual written reply, a lot of what you say/have said is touching us/me/your followers in all sorts of positive ways. In a quiet unassuming way, you are our conscience, our inspiration to get through the challenges that confront us daily. But…….in the same way, I hope that that knowledge, in turn, makes us your inspiration to continue. And, I sincerely hope, you see it as an option in your otherwise full and busy existence, and not as a must or a chore! In other words, if you were to quit today, your job to inspire and motivate others is done and resides way above what most of us do to challenge our own thought patterns, let alone those of whom we care. So….I look forward to reading more, knowing that you are doing it because you want to and like to, not because you have to. The new website is a bloody ripper, as you too are. Thanks mate…….

  2. Ah, Dear Trev…..thanks for those beautiful words, mate! That brought a tear to my eyes this morning. You really are one of a kind!! I’ll touch base again soon by email. Still thinking about Hawaii……..

  3. Just popped in to offer my thanks for you choosing to follow Learning from Dogs. Although, I suspect it’s that handsome face of Pharaoh rather than my scribblings that is the attraction! Best wishes, Paul

    • My wall is plastered with pictures of my dog, Callaway. The face was certainly enticing, but so were the scribblings!

  11. I am one who notices things. For example, I notice that Barrie is halfway between a certain resort and a certain large city. It’s probably unrelated, I’m sure, but I know of a Canadian gentleman who is quite a poet and happens to live in that large city. Also unrelated, I feel confident, is that a lady who is also quite a poet happens to live near that certain resort. I believe that any sort of initial difference might be pasted over via the writing of several centipedes of poetry.

But, I could be wrong. As I said, this might be completely unrelated. Oh, by the way, here are a couple of great poets. Speaking of poets.

      • It was just a thought. A kind of long thought. Two single people, both very talented, who live two hours and thirty minutes from each other. I’m just… I see possibilities.

  14. Good morning, Susan. So I feel a little stupid. I went on a fire call about 7 p.m. Friday and, as we were doing our “overhaul” about an hour later, digging through things to make sure there weren’t any more hot spots, I suddenly thought, “Hell! I’m going to miss making Susan spit up her half-frozen raspberries!” By the time we got back to the station and put everything away, it was well after 10. The rest of the weekend I spent off the grid, having pre-posted my “Flashback Sunday” on Friday afternoon. In a strange way, I feel like I let you down. I just thought you should know that even in the middle of a fire call while breathing from oxygen tanks, I thought of half-frozen raspberries 🙂

    • Lol….that is the best Monday morning message ever!! I did think about you as well as I was putting the raspberries in the bowl!!

I hope everyone is safe and sound after the fire call. I’ll be buying a new bag on my way home today, so there is still hope I can spray my monitor with half-frozen, half-masticated raspberries. 😀
Thanks for the message….you just made my terrible Monday morning much better!!

      • Thanks, Susan 🙂 I’m sorry about your terrible start to the day, but really glad I could make it a bit better. Everyone was fine, but the house was a total loss. However, in most cases people end up with something better than they started with. And we did manage to save a lot of personal items, though, like photos, etc. I am a certified fire scene investigator now, so I can say with some authority that it started in the microwave, probably while thawing out frozen raspberries… 😉

      • Lol….I guess I should be very glad I am one of the only people on the planet who doesn’t own a microwave!! 😀 (and your last comment almost made my spray a bit of salad….and yes….there are some raspberries in it!!)

  15. Hey there, Susan :)) It’s funny — I was going to write on your “about” page last night, and apologize for not being a better blogging friend as of late. I was pretty sure you had mentioned going on vacation, so I didn’t think much about not seeing your posts or seeing your little typewriter show up on my site. Then after a couple of weeks, I just got caught up in life’s craziness and the next thing I knew, it had been three weeks or more. Then I began to wonder if maybe I’d said or done something that offended you, like heading into the Matrix without calling first. Anyway, I was so glad I found your Milestone post and had the chance to congratulate you. I hope we’re “good.” As a gesture of friendship, I sent a package of frozen raspberries. It was with the same kid I hired to bring the Mexican Mochas, so they might be thawed out before you get them. And by the way, I’m really glad to be a part of your Blogging Family. Have a wonderful day!

    • Oh Ned!! Once again you made me laugh out loud!! I’m sorry I haven’t been reading much, but since my mom went into hospital we have been looking after pets and trying to find mom either a nursing home or retirement home – we’re not sure yet how much care she will need.

I’ll be waiting by the mailbox for the raspberries!! Thawed or not, it’s the thought that counts. 🙂

I’m glad you are part of my blogging family too!

      • I’m so sorry to hear about your mom, Susan. That’s a really tough thing to deal with, on so many levels. My thoughts are with you and your mom. On a brighter note, I just checked in with Freddy the delivery boy, who just cleared customs. I imagine your raspberry delivery should be arriving soon because he said something about a “drug mule,” which I assume is what he’s riding to make up for lost time? Anyway, my best wishes for you and your mom, and I hope you enjoy the raspberries.

  18. Hello. I was recently presented with the Versatile Blogger Award, and was asked to nominate fifteen other bloggers.
As much as I hate chain letters, I have regularly enjoyed reading and viewing your work and would like to show my appreciation by passing this award on to you.
To the best of my knowledge, no one has been promised good fortune if they passed it on to fifteen others, or been threatened with catastrophe if they “broke the chain”.
This is simply my acknowledgement of gratitude for the privilege of enjoying your blog and your creative impulses.
    Respectfully,
    Chazz Vincent

  23. It’s just dawned me that you were writing cryptically recently about Something you had to wait for – a decision to be made, it was unclear. But I remember the last I heard you had only 9 days to wait – and I’m fairly sure that was more than 9 days ago! Can you reveal???
