I feel his stare before I am aware of his presence.
If I had to, I could answer my own question.
I know why he suddenly appears.
My dad said he would always be with me.
The owl only proves his promise.

Written for the Gargleblaster #160.
We’re turning to The Carpenters for this week’s ultimate question. This song has been stuck in my head since the gargleblaster started.
Why do birds suddenly appear?
Give us your answer in 42 words. We know you all know the next line in the song. Let’s see if you can make us think of something different. Take it out of context of the original song and help me clear my head!
Oh, I’ve always loved owls…they’re cool. Apparently they are all the rage. Recently, I was in a home goods store and was surrounded by owl glasses, cookie jars, canisters…you name it…they were watching me as I perused the entire store. 🙂
Shortly after my dad passed – 8 years ago – I had an owl in the tree that hangs over my deck. My dad loved owls….and every time I see the owl, I know my dad is stopping by.
I remember chatting with you about this, Susan. I feel the same about Doves…my grandmother loved them and they often stop by and watch me in the window. I have no doubt it’s my grandmother checking in. 🙂
It’s a comforting feeling. 🙂
Yes, it is. I’ll be sending you some comfort this weekend, Susan. You’ll be in my prayers.
Thanks Jill.
🙂
fantastic – owls are perfect cause usually the symbolize evil but not in this case 🙂
Thank you.
That’s sweet. I am glad that you feel your dad is with you.
Owls are such fascinating creatures. No wonder your dad picked one to check in on you!
Most mornings I hear a barnowl when I go out before dawn. My favorite experience was with a baby owl. Apparently did not get enough to eat and early one morning my dogs surrounded it. Looked like a cat with its bright yellow eyes. No harm was done. My dogs know I don’t allow murders.
Bittersweet, awwww.
A beautiful and touching post, Susan.
My turn!
Why do birds suddenly appear?
Because my car isn’t going to poop on itself.
Ahem. I’ll see myself out.
This is gorgeous – I absolutely loved it. I love the alliteration in the last line. It is wistful and touching and a beautiful memory. I wish everyone had such a tangible reminder of love. Thank you so much for sharing it with us, Susan.
