Finding the colors

When sadness overwhelms us,

Mother Nature is there

to help us find beauty,

IMG_1611

to make us stop and absorb the moment,

to find peace in memories.

IMG_1610

to find the lining of colors

in an emotionally gray day,

and to make us see the spirits,

free in the sky,

to feel their presence and find our smile.

Sunny day, sweepin’ the clouds away?

I’m sorry if the theme song from Sesame Street is stuck in your head, but I couldn’t help but sing it when I saw this landscape greeting me on my way to work this morning.  But Nature is a fickle thing….five minutes after I passed under this skyline the black clouds fought back and the snow flakes liberally spilled onto the ground.  Welcome to November!

Smelling the lilacs while my head’s in the clouds

I have my window wide open today smelling the lovely fragrant scent of the lilac blossoms in my yard combined with the pungent odor of my freshly cut lawn.  For me, those smells are the perfect storm of essences and I could sit peacefully and inhale those fragrances all day.

I poured a glass of wine and sat on my deck with my feet up.  The sky wanted to participate in the sensory overload and this is what I got to see in different parts of the sky today.

A lovely way to end the day.

I hope you enjoyed your Saturday as much as I did.

A Word a Week Photo Challenge

I haven’t participated in this challenge for a while but A Word In Your Ear has a great challenge where she opens a page of the dictionary and chooses a word.  You can opt to submit a photo, a poem or story, whatever genre you choose to help you describe the word.

This week the word is undulate.  As soon as I read the word, I was taken back to one specific moment in my youth that I have never been able to do justice with words.

We lay on our backs on the dock at our cottage staring into the beauty of the night sky.  The world seemed to stop to allow every bit of life’s energy to be absorbed by the Aurora Borealis.  The lake was a sheet of glass and, while the ground lay breathless, the green hues undulated against the backdrop of the atmosphere and reflected off the water.  Although we were perfectly still, our bodies felt like we were surfing on the movement of the Northern Lights.

This photo, although beautiful, does not do justice to that night sky so many years ago but it does give you a glimpse into the beauty that we had the chance to absorb.

The sun will come out – tomorrow??

After dealing with the “polar vortex”, the unending snow and a delightful case of Pneumonia, I needed something to cheer me up so I went through the archives and found this pictures to help warm me up!

This was a sunset in the Caribbean.  I can almost feel the warmth.

The sun began to settle into the blanket of the clouds.

The sky just looks so animated and inviting.

It seemed like the sun’s journey had ended.

But it poked through the clouds before disappearing into the horizon.

Cloudy with a chance of winter

I was entertaining myself at work by going through all of the pictures I have stored on my phone and realized I had been hiding these awesome shots of what I love to photograph the most – clouds.

I love the wisps and the way the trees hold them in the frame.

Clouds resembling a raging forest fire.

I love, love, love the mixture of colors in these clouds.

The first thing I saw in these clouds was the yellowish face on the right.  It looks like he is trying to blow the clouds away.

And this was taken a few months ago, but I just love the texture in the sky.
